the day starts promptly at six am
into the blunt argument of the morning
three o' clock and everything goes dark
nothing skips a beat, not even my heart
i fall apart
the fragile space
i'd spend time with god
if he'd only stay
the microscope i’m under has me pinned
in between two plexiglass panes
i should take a walk around the block
claustrophobic air breathing shock
my failing start
head first down the stairs
i’d pledge to you my heart
if you’d only care
my faith and my soul
it was all there
that was a long time ago
i’ve said it before, i’ll say it again, i’m growing old
the day starts promptly at 6 am
into the blunt argument of the morning
three o’clock and everything falls dark
nothing skips a beat, not even my heart
i fall apart
the fragile space
i’d spend time with god
if she’d only stay

I Don't Know

you promised something good
what was it, do you remember?
do you still think of me
every night we’re untogether?
you in your other world
backstage lines, pursuit of pleasure
me, i was your baby girl
now i can’t seem to hold your attention
you say your love wanes and waxes
desire that falls and reattaches
yesterday, it was me and you
the world belonged to only us two
time has passed, once again
i don’t know when i’ll see you again
your letters sound so fine
you could stay on tour forever
the thames, the seine, the rhine
a perfect moon above each river
while i wander alone
springtime comes i count the flowers
you were my hayfever
careless love runs in the water
you say your love wanes and waxes
desire that falls and reattaches
yesterday
you told me
i was yours eternally
now that i’m out of sight
i don’t know whose bed you’re in tonight
ones and twos and threes and fours
you kiss me and you’re out the door
ones and twos and threes and fours
i kiss you and you’re out the door

a walk with melissa jeanne
she knew just what it took to
push me hard on the schoolyard swing
hard enough for around the world
i loved her like a
sister brother
the girl that she was then
made the rest pale in comparison
speed the day
the world will make you pay
heaven lights the way
the girl will break away
a drink for melissa jeanne
the clink of ice ran through
the threat of being late
of being rejected by you
i loved her like a
father mother
the boy that she was then
made the rest pale in comparison
speed the day
the world will make you pay
heaven lights the way
the girl will break away
i don’t regret a single thing
i don’t regret a single word i said
that walk with melissa jeanne
the memory i replay
she pushed me hard on the schoolyard swing
hard enough for around the world
i loved her like a
friend and other
the girl that she was then
made the rest pale in comparison

Simon

a flash and they’re outside
quick run before bedtime
to find the space simon
the ufo and goblin
and then you see me go
and then you see we go
an excuse and an exit
a few roads down the old kick
change slow sky
hide behind your third eye
a line above the night
one phone call away from getting high
we know that you’re out there
but we made a mistake there
spent an hour in the cold
now we’re shaking so
and then you see he go
and then you see she go
it’s simple space simon
now you’ve got a problem
and then you see me go
and then you see we go
it’s simple space simon
you’ve really got a problem now
change slow sky
hide behind your third eye
a line above the night
one phone call away from getting high
hiding behind the locked door
we know simon’s in there
we can try to break in
or try to stop obsessing

yes daddy, he’s perfectly normal
yes daddy, he’s perfectly fine
his father
yes, his father
taught him to be strong
taught him to be cold
when he was
was just a boy
getting dressed up for
his mother’s funeral
his poor mom
she is gone now
was young and beautiful
she was beautiful
ever since
ever since then
he never changed, he stayed just the same
it’s crazy to believe that
what you teach might never leave
it’s crazy to think that
all we are is what we dream
yes mommy she’s perfectly normal
yes mommy, she’s perfectly fine
a little girl
an open heart
she could not remember
any other way
invisible
you didn’t see her
she had no one
no one came that day
then she learned
she realized
it’s you and no one else
no one will be there
you must be strong
yes, you must
protect yourself, it’s up to you

Avenue

the record plays over again
just to fill the silence
sound to fill the silence
as the girl lies there
beyond tears, her room is dark
the starkness of an evening
the record still plays on
the record skips along
beyond the door is nothing
her home is locked and cold
the city stands up tall
she curls up in a ball
the record plays and the girl listens
she walks to her window
looks down the avenue
at the cabs and cars
the record plays and the girl is brave
she climbs onto the windowsill
looks down the avenue
at the cabs and cars
beyond the door is nothing
her home is locked and cold
the city stands up tall
she takes a step and falls

Old Poems And Lovers

when you sleep you twitch
you shudder and you kick
good thing i like you
or that would get annoying
drink another, now is not the time
drink another, for caring about what’s mine
drink another, at the bars we’re stars of night
drink another, and so will i
i’m itchy all over when i’m tired
my right ear has the power
my words are not my own
they’re burgundy and gold
i sigh a sigh
my knee won’t stop shaking
therefore i’m eccentric
lisped and far more interesting
drink another, now is not the time
drink another, for caring about what’s mine
drink another, at the bars we’re stars of night
drink another, and so will i
when you sleep you twitch
you shudder and you kick
i remember how i loved you
but now you make me sick

a familiar
melancholy
overtook the
yellow moon and then
the matisse blue sky, solid and
primary as dance number one
against the pink brick row houses asked
is he seeing someone?
low and covered the street lamp concurred
he really missed out
does he feel the same?
does he get the joke?
a man and his thoughts
having once been a part
and you know sometimes they still are
and you knew he wouldn’t quite get the joke
and you knew he planned his escape
while the firefly waits
a familiar full and drunk song
desperate and hollow
the world’s worst cologne
the wet gentle breeze of july
the firefly sees
the lamp alone
its aluminum post suffering
as i toil my way through
another mistake
my head rests upon the hand
and the moon awaits
his morning hangover
a man and his heart

Please
03:57
|

ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
won’t you please tell me the tale
of your broken heart?
beyond the pale, the despair is real
and the bones have recalled the past
forever, until this day
has passed, why won’t you stay?
ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
won’t you please tell me the tale
of your broken heart?
beyond the pale, the despair is real
and the letters have all shed their skin
if i asked you to, would you
hurt me deeply
i scale the wall
ooh, ooh ooh ooh ooh
should i get married?
should i be good?
astound the girl next door
with my velvet hood?

in your bathroom, on the wall
there’s a painting of a girl
she watches as you draw your bath
fold your dress, untie your hair
light a candle, burn a silver spoon
lie submerged in the bath
the beating of your heart
makes ripples on the surface
of the water
when the candle sputters out
the coldness of your skin
a blue november sky
underwater
in your bathroom, on the wall
there’s a mirrored cabinet
it waits for you to rise again
comb your hair, dry your skin
clean your teeth, and make up your eyes
